What is it?
This portable SSD lets you back up any data onto the drive. Its larger than a USB and smaller than most other hard drives. This one comes in 4 different storage sizes, 250GB (the one I have), 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. You can think of it as a big USB.
Design
The T3 is incredibly small and lightweight. It is 3mm thick and measures at 74 x 58 x 10.5mm and weighs 51g. ¾ of the SSD is aluminium and the other ¼ is plastic matte black. The T3 can fit into the palm of your hands, that’s how small it is. However, due to the small size it can easily fall and could break. It is resilient to damage so I wouldn’t worry but don’t be continuously dropping it.
The only feature on the T3 is that it has a USB 3.1 type-C connector. I find this feature great because its future proof. Every tech that is coming out right now is moving to USB C so this is already adapting to the new changes.
Security
The T3 comes equipped with AES 256-bit hardware encryption. This secures your data, so if you do lose the hard drive you don’t need to worry about people going through your data. Samsung includes a software which takes care of the password management. T3 works on any device, Windows, Mac and Android, so it’s very versatile and works on any platform.
Performance
when it comes to performance, the T3 does not shy away at all. Samsung claims that it is 4 times faster than the standard external HDD (up to 450MB/s). Therefore, I put this to the test, as seen in the screenshot below. To put this in easier terms, I transferred 30GB worth of photos and videos from my laptop to the SSD and it took 13 minutes. On a USB, this would have taken me so much longer.
