The Cake and Bake Show

07 – 09 October 2016 @ ExCel London

This weekend we attended the Cake and Bake show at ExCel London.
This is the biggest baking show in the UK hosting a wide range of exhibitors, display tables and live bake-offs. As a baking addict I was super excited to go, I wanted to capture everything as well as enjoy the experience so took Waseema along with me. She took all the amazing pictures whilst I was free to run around like a child in a toy shop.

The show opened on the 07th October and ran all weekend closing at 5pm on the 09th. We went around midday on the 08th. This was both good and bad.

Good because it wasn’t overly crowded so we were able to enjoy all the stalls without feeling rushed or claustrophobic (Bad previous experience at another Excel Exhibition)

Bad because we missed out on meeting some of the Great British Bake off stars that were lined up to appear. Mainly Nadiya Hussain who we were really hoping to meet. (atleast Waseema got a selfie with her cardboarad cutout on snapchat)

Still had a great time regardless, keep reading to find out our best bits.

The stand out attraction of the exhibition has got to be the ‘BFG Showstopper’. Created by Jacqui Kelly (Founder of Totally Sugar, a London based sugar studio specialising in bespoke edible art)

This is cake….can you believe it?! We couldn’t, this photo does not do it justice. The level of details on this cake is unbelievable. I wonder what it tastes like, also where do you find a knife big and strong enough to cut into this xD

As mentioned earlier there were loads of exhibitors I honestly did not know where to start. Here are my stand out stalls.

BB BAKERY AFTERNOON TEA BUS

We love and adore BB Bakery, their afternoon tea is an absolute treat (Bonus it’s Halal). They offer three types of Afternoon Tea services: At the bakery (Covent Garden), bus tour and boat ride.

For the bake show they bought the actual bus and had it decked out in Christmas decorations. We got to have a look around the bus which gave us a feel of what it would be like. I most definitely recommend booking Afternoon tea at this Bakery. I will be booking Afternoon Tea Bus tour for Christmas 😀

DR OETKAR

I am already a fan of Dr Oetkar baking products so was delighted to see they had several stands. Unfortunately they were not selling any products on the day but did give us a chance to try out some of their new products.

I got to try using their ‘Cupcake Centers’ and ‘Ready to use icing’. The idea for both is good and I would say anyone who is new to baking will love and appreciate these. Personally for me they were a bit blah, the ‘ready to use icing’ was way too sweet and the cupcake centers hardly enough to fill a dozen although the blueberry flavour tasted amazing.

DULCE’S PATISSERIE

Dulce’s Patisserie is a home style bakery creating french pastries and bespoke cakes. All of their creations are handmade and are an absolute treat. They had a nice selection of Macaroons all neatly piled up and displayed.

We tried a lavender flavoured macaroon which was so so good! These are homemade?? Why don’t mine come out like that 🙁 This bakery has inspired me to get back to the kitchen and start on my Macarons again. I will not give up 😀

SHANA FOODS

Gotta say was slightly surprised to see Shana foods at the ‘Cake and Bake show’ but hey fresh out of the oven garlic and chilli naan..gimme!

NUTS AND OLIVES

This stall had an amazing range of cashew nuts and olives, from sweet to savoury to spicy. Something for everyone’s taste bud. The guy running the stall was very friendly and allowed us to sample each batch before we picked the one we wanted.

I got a little carried away xD The honey nuts were amaaaaazing. We ended up buying the chilli cashew nuts only, I would have loved the honey cashews but I had way too many free samples by then so was feeling a little queasy.

Competition  Winner (Cakes): Zahir Rathod – Dragon Warrior

The London show is now over but you can catch The Cake and Bake Show over in Manchester at Event City on 10th to 13th November. If you are a baking addict like me then do go. Go early so you can catch the main stars of the show and go on an empty stomach, lots of samples on offer 😀

Here are some more pictures highlighting our experience.
